East Village is home to probably the highest concentration of bars in the country, at roughly 300 bars in the neighborhood, and come in all varieties. It’s grittier than the West Village but with quite a few unique spots and reknown cocktail bars.
Death & Co.
Wrote a best selling book on mixology. This place (along with Employees Only in West Village) is at the top of the cocktail scene in NYC and is what other cocktail bars look up to.

The oldest continually operated bar in NYC (although disputed by some). Abraham Lincoln even drank here. Look it up. Cash only and there are only 2 drink options – dark ale and light ale. Get ready to feel like you’ve just entered into a time machine.
