Last week I went to 1Oak for the first time. I had heard so much about it and I had been to neighboring clubs, so I was pretty excited. I’ll admit I had a pretty good time. They actually had space to dance, which some clubs don’t seem to care about as they just want to keep you confined to your table. Our table was also one of the best ones I’ve had, there was champagne and Stella Artois instead of just vodka and juice. Champagne!
Travi$ Scott was supposed to be coming for his after party, and even though when I left (at 3 AM) there was no sign of him, I didn’t really care. The club was fun, but it was pretty much a mosh pit near the DJ.
What really stuck out to me last week, was PH-D (penthouse dream terrace, I guess). We went to PH-D midtown this weekend. There are several branches around the city, so there is probably some variance, but I had an awesome time.
The bouncers were pretty nice and seemed to be in a good mood, maybe because they get to be inside instead of on the street. The elevator took us right up to the club which had a pretty great dance mix when we were there, but at first, no one was really dancing. The view was already pretty nice, but my friends and I really just like to go anywhere that has a good roof, so we headed upstairs. What I really liked was that the roof had an indoor sort of area, with plastic shielding and an outdoor, open-air part. There was an upstairs bar, and tons of seating while you enjoyed the view.
I’ve been on some pretty nice terraces in the city, but what I loved was the atmosphere. Having the downstairs part of the club as well allowed for the terrace to be a more chill space. Everyone was taking pictures and chatting, the music was quieter, we asked another person to take out picture and then returned the favor, like tourists in our own city, we seemed to be seeing it through fresh eyes.
The terrace is cleaner than the downstairs, lit in part by the light of the city, and with nicer furniture, it seemed to inspire an atmosphere less conducive to spilling and being sloppy. It was a little escape that served as a place to get a breather from the party, but also to have your breath taken away by the view. All in all, I think it helped us to have a calmer, less stressful, night.
When we went back downstairs, I was ready to dance again.
All in all, it was a fun weekend, but if I had to suggest a club, I would recommend trying to get down-or, I guess, up-to PH-D.
