This is quite an elegant beautiful property – those were our first words when we walked into the Southern Sun The Cullinan hotel. It is traditional and colonial in style with furnishings that look quite new. Reminded us of the Raffles Hotel in Singapore (which invented the famous Singapore Sling drink). It is located conveniently between the V&A Waterfront and the downtown district, so it is highly convenient for both tourism and business travel. The hotel is part of the Tsogo Sun, one of the largest hotel chains in Africa.
Our room was spacious, with both a living room, dining table, 2 bathrooms, nespresso maker, and a separate bedroom. It included a full bar of drinks and 2 televisions as well – quite convenient when you are sharing the room with someone.
The lobby includes a restaurant on the 2nd level, with an amazing breakfast buffet in the morning. There is also a full gym, one of the better hotel gyms I have seen, and a beautiful outdoor pool area that blends in well with the property. The wifi came with a data usage fee (although 500 mb per day is free) but was quick and reliable. Uber in Cape Town is quite cheap and easy to use, so we were able to get anywhere in Cape Town from the property for under $10. The hotel also offered a complimentary shuttle to the waterfront.
